A fonte de alimentação regulada DC geralmente tem várias saídas: por exemplo, uma saída fixa de 5V e 2A é fornecida; duas saídas ajustáveis (A e B) são fornecidas com 0-24V e 0-1A. A saída ajustável geralmente tem dois modos de trabalho: regulação de tensão e regulação de corrente. Esses dois modos de trabalho são convertidos automaticamente com a mudança da carga, e o LED no painel frontal do instrumento exibe os modos CV e CC. Geralmente, a luz verde indica CV (regulação de tensão), a luz vermelha indica CC (corrente constante).
